Advance Notice: Morton Cutoff Road Closure and Range Access Impacts

Wednesday, May 20, 2026

Seven Islands Land Company has notified us of an upcoming road closure that will temporarily impact access to the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association (RRGSA) shooting range.

Key Dates to Know

  • Road remains OPEN through Memorial Day Weekend
  • Closure begins: Tuesday, May 26, 2026
  • Estimated reopening: Around June 4, 2026 (subject to weather and construction conditions)

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Morton Cutoff Road will be closed to all traffic to allow for necessary gravel road repairs and maintenance. The road will remain open through Memorial Day weekend, with closure beginning immediately afterward. The project is expected to be completed by approximately June 4, 2026; however, the timeline may extend depending on weather and construction conditions.

Impact on Shooting Range Access

Due to this closure, the RRGSA shooting range will be closed for the duration of the road work. Members and guests are asked to plan accordingly and avoid scheduling visits during this time.

We understand this is a busy time of year and regret any inconvenience this may cause. These improvements are essential to maintaining safe and reliable access to the area, and we appreciate your patience as the work is completed.

Alternate Access Routes

For those who may still need to access the general area during the closure, the following alternate routes are available:

  • Via Lincoln Pond Road (by Black Brook Cove Campground)
  • Via Tim Pond Road (via Route 27)

Stay Updated

We will continue to share updates as we receive them and will notify members as soon as the road and shooting range are reopened.
